Shopping online has truly revolutionized the way society purchases goods and services. It’s essentially the new normal and something that people of all ages can take advantage of, making it easier than ever to get what you want and need. If you are considering opening up an online store, Shopify has made it easier than ever for business owners to offer their goods and services online. Starting an online store using Shopify is a great way to earn revenue without the need for a brick and mortar. When using Shopify for your online store, it is important to know some helpful tips and tricks to ensure that you are taking full advantage of the opportunities that are out there to boost your sales. One of the biggest mistakes that Shopify store owners tend to make is over-optimizing the wrong features and neglecting some of the essentials needed for growth. In this blog, we will go over some helpful tips for your online store to ensure that you are focusing on the right things.
1. Changing your prices to whole numbers
Many online retailers tend to add cents to their prices with efforts of looking more affordable. In fact, this is the oldest trick in the book. For instance, Walmart often ends their prices with .97 and many other businesses have their prices with .99 at the end. The reason why many online retainers do this is to make it seem like their goods or services are a bargain; however, not all ecommerce sellers need to play the budget game with their buyers. If you want your brand to come off more reputable and professional, then you can add solid prices like Nike does. It also gives your website a cleaner, more updated look, which is important because your website should be just as appealing as the product or service that you are offering.
One of the great features about Shopify is that you do not need to manually change every price listed for items. Perhaps you want to change them to a solid number or you prefer having the cents at the end–all you have to do is use a Shopify setting to make it happen.
Simply go to Settings > General > Store Currency > Change Formatting and list your items or services as you wish.
2. Add your store policy at the footer
One of the biggest mistakes that online store owners tend to make is forgetting to add their store policies to their website. For example, return policies are important things that your customers will want to know and it helps establish trust. Perhaps a customer received a defective product–well that customer will likely want to know what the return policy is. Additionally, having a store policy on your website adds an extra layer of comfort and legitimacy for your customers, which is imperative when it comes to being a reputable and professional business owner.
The great thing about store policies is that you do not need to come up with it manually on your own. You can simply use the one in your Shopify’s admin and modify as needed. However, it is important that you stick to your store policies and follow what is stated.
If you would like to add a store policy to your online store, you can find it in your Settings under Legal.
3. Always test your store’s settings
Another very important tip is to always test your store’s settings, especially when you are running campaigns, etc. While this may seem like a very obvious thing to do, unfortunately, many store owners fail to do so resulting in high bounce rates. After all, who wants to deal with an online website that is not functioning properly? Therefore, always double check to see what your website looks like on mobile, desktop, tablet, etc. to ensure it is in working order and your customers can make a purchase as seamlessly as possible.
